The three year-old killed by a tractor on Cuttlehill Farm, Crossgates has been named as Stuart Nelson who only celebrated his third birthday days before the tragic accident.
Little Stuart was knocked down by the farm vehicle believed to be a forklift truck tractor.
His parents Richard, 37, and Linzi, 36, who live on the Fife cattle farm with Mr Nelsons parents, were said to be “numb” with grief over the tragedy.
Reverend Gavin Boswell, minister of Crossgates Church of Scotland, said: “This is a tragedy that has left members of the close knit community shocked and stunned.
“It is truly heartbreaking to lose a child under any circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this extremely difficult time.”
The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers in Fife are investigating after a child was killed in a collision with a farm vehicle. Inquiries into the full circumstances are continuing.”
