Public told ‘keep windows closed’ as fire rips through Fife farm building

A derelict farm building in Dunfermline has gone on fire sparking public safety warnings to be issued by police in Fife.

Residents near Fod Farm, Linburn Road looked on in shock as flames ripped through the buildings casting plumes of dark smoke into the air.

It has not been confirmed if there are any hazardous materials within the old buildings which are situated close to residential housing.

Resident David Potter posted on Twitter: “Just looked out the window and saw the fire at Fod Farm. Hope no one is hurt as the blaze is tackled.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland, along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, are advising local people to keep their doors and windows closed following a fire a derelict farm in Linburn Road, Dunfermline.

“Police were alerted to the fire in a large barn at South Fod Farm on Linburn Road around 4pm on Thursday, February 16.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance and are the fire is still ongoing.

“Smoke is blowing east from the farm towards Kintail Place and Braemar Drive. Officers would urge members of the public to stay indoors with windows closed when possible.

“This message is precautionary. A further update will be released in due course.”
