Horse killed after being hit by car on A911

A horse has been killed in an early morning road traffic collision.

Police are investigating the accident, which happened around 5.50am on the A911 between Windygates and Milton of Balgonie in Fife.

A motorist struck the animal, which had escaped from a field or enclosure, as it made its way on or near to the road.  The 47 year-old female driver of the car was uninjured, said police.

A police spokesman said: “The horse unfortunately sustained very serious injuries and was required to be put to sleep at the scene by a vet.

“The 47-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured.”

Police are making inquiries into how the animal came to be on the road.
