Disruption as east coast train engine goes on fire at Leuchars

Rail services were disrupted when a busy commuter train’s engine went on fire just outside Leuchars.

Passengers were evacuated from a carriage after a Virgin Trains east coast train at around 11.30am on 21 March.

It was en route from Leeds to Aberdeen.

The incident led to significant disruption to other services.  The train was terminated at Leuchars after smoke was seen coming from the engine.

Three fire crews attended the scene.
